SPOK (Contemporary production and consumption) is a digital platform for production that aims to collect and spread knowledge about local manufacturing possibilities, from crafts to industry. The website makes local manufacturers visible and thus creates more meetings and simplifies collaboration between creative industries and manufacturers. The platform is operated nationally using a network of regional hubs that list local companies and manufacturers in their regions.

During the Stockholm Furniture Fair, in the SPOK Sample exhibition, you get to take part of the platform in physical form with material samples and manufacturing methods from all the regional hubs. The material samples - everything from wood, metal, textile, glass, plastic and stone represent the width and variety of knowledge that exists within Swedish manufacturing and aim to inspire form practitioners to produce locally.

In our booth (C04:25) the results from the DES&DO! project will also be displayed, where the hub SPOK Västra Götaland together with FORM & people matched 14 teams of designers and regional manufacturers. The exhibition presents products, ideas, sketches and prototypes that the teams developed together over six months. The purpose of the matching project is to inspire more collaborations and make the diversity of manufacturing and design that exists in Västra Götaland visible.

SPOK

SPOK wants to work for the development of local production throughout Sweden and, by extension, more local consumption. By moving from global to local manufacturing and strengthening the conditions for geographically close production and consumption, we see the platform as part of a long-term sustainable development that relates to the climate and environment in a smarter and healthier way.

SPOK was founded and developed by Jenny Nordberg, who is also the creative director. The initiative was launched in 2016 in Skåne and has been implemented with the support of Region Skåne, Malmö Stad, Länsstyrelsen Skåne, Kulturrådet and Tillväxtverket. SPOK has its starting point from the Form/Design Center, which is the principal for the project.
