In partnership with Adorno – The Curated Platform for Contemporary Collectible Design, a curated collection of selected objects by ten southern Swedish designers will be presented during Southern Sweden Design Days 19–22 May 2022. The collection is presented both physically in an exhibition at Lokstallarna in Kirseberg in Malmö and digitally at the Adorno website. Through participating the exhibitors also get the opportunity to sell their objects via Adorno's e-commerce platform.

Southern Sweden Design Days  

On 19–22 May 2022, the second edition of Southern Sweden Design Days (SSDD) will take place – a new, annual international design event in Malmö. The event highlights and builds knowledge about design – focusing on sustainability, collaboration, development and innovation. For four days, a platform is created showcasing a full range of design disciplines and the city is filled with exhibitions, seminars, workshops, networking events and festivities in a variety of places. Southern Sweden Design Days is organised by Form/Design Center.

Adorno 

Adorno is a digital gallery for the best of contemporary collectible design and craft from around the globe. Selected in partnership with a network of on-the-ground experts in major design cities, Adorno’s collections provide a unique insight into the world’s diverse creative communities – and celebrate the work of the designers shaping them. 

Each collection showcases only unique or limited-edition contemporary works, spanning the fields of furniture, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and design-art. The curatorial approach varies from collection to collection – just as design culture varies from community to community – but every object is contemporary in style, experimental in approach, and exceptional in material quality. 

The designers featured include both established names and emerging talents at the cusp of their careers, ensuring each collection is aa snapshot of the people, techniques, styles and thinking that they define the modern the making culture of each region. With each collection launch, Adorno adds a new chapter to the global design story. 

In its essence the infrastructure of Adorno includes the e-commerce platform (www.adorno.design), an international legal set up, and a global shipping solution that enables efficient collaboration between curators and designers to promote their work, and transact with a growing segment of international buyers. Besides running the online platform, Adorno exhibits at major design events worldwide. 

12 month free Adorno membership 

Designers selected to participate in Adorno x SSDD 2022 will be provided with a 12 month membership free of cost. An annual membership for an independent designer on Adorno is 500 Euros per year. Membership on Adorno includes a “designer showroom” from which designers can sell not only the piece from the collection but also other pieces of collectible design both old and new, and reach a massive audience. 

Criteria for participation  

Application is open for designers who:  

are based in Skåne, Halland, Småland and Blekinge 
want to participate in a group exhibition curated by Adorno during Southern Sweden Design Days in May 2022 
want the opportunity to sell their items through Adorno’s e-commerce platform. 
are willing to contribute to marketing by providing a short video introducing themselves as designers.

The objects must be:

collectible and designed within the last 9 months. Collectible meaning unique or limited in numbers (max 20), not under license to a brand, most commonly including an element of craftmanship. 
relate to the theme of SSDD 2022 “Proximity”. Read about the theme here
immediately available for sale and ready to be dispatched for delivery within 2 weeks.

Designers apply to participate in Adorno x SSDD 2022 by submitting an application (standing A4-format) to terese@formdesigncenter.com no later than 15 January 2022 23:59 pm, including the following information in english:

It is possible to apply with several objects. The final selection is made by Adorno as curator of the exhibition. Feedback on the applications received will be given no later than 21 January, and applicants will be notified if they have been selected to participate in Adorno x SSDD 2022.

Attendance 

As participant in the exhibition at Lokstallarna, a certain presence in the exhibition will be required during the event days.
