Gemla Fabrikers in Småland's Diö is Sweden's oldest furniture factory and has experienced most of the Swedish furniture industry's development, growth and survival. The book "Konsten att tämja trä" describes the people and life in the mill, the genuine craftsmanship of bending solid wood with steam, entrepreneurship and the products and their designers, from the mid-19th century to the present day .
The book is written by Kerstin Wickman, Anders Houltz, Sara Kristoffersson and Petter Eklund.

Gemla Fabrikers is a Swedish furniture manufacturer founded in 1861 and was one of the first to introduce bentwood technology in Sweden. Over the years, they have collaborated with Carl Bergsten, Gunnar Asplund, Uno Åhren, Sigurd Lewerentz, Yngve Ekström, and Peter Celsing to Jonas Bohlin and Mats Theselius as well as FRONT and Lisa Hilland.
Lisa Hilland – formgivare
Lisa Hilland creates contemporary design with a poetic twist, combining modern high-tech production techniques with artisan quality craftsmanship. After graduating from Central St Martin's College of Art, she worked ten years as a designer in London before setting up her own studio in Sweden in 2005. Her current clients include renowned furniture producers such as Konsthantverk, IKEA, Gärsnäs, Gemla, Design House Stockholm and Svenskt Tenn.
