Which laws and rules govern what is built? Why does your apartment look the way it does? In collaboration with ARKDES and the architects BBR-LGH, Form/Design Center and Lund University of Technology now invite you home to their newly built two room flat-example that is temporarily on display in Skåne.

The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's (Boverket) updated building regulations (Building Regulations of Possibilities) which applies from 1 July 2025. How does this affect which apartments are built in the future and what will they look like? Are the critics' concerns justified? Who ensures that housing is of sufficiently high quality even when the requirements are not as clearly defined?

Architects Tove Dumon Wallsten, Love di Marco and Gustav Stjärnström have, in collaboration with ArkDes, developed an installation of a full-scale apartment to visualize what a future home (maybe) could look like. An installation that is on a temporary visit to Skåne when Form/Design Center together with Lund University of Technology (LTH) invites you to participate in the conversation about the design of the home, laws and regulations, clouds of concern and opportunities.

The example apartment opens at LTH in connection with the Lund Architecture Symposium 2025 (LAS25). Architect Tove Wallsten, one of the initiators of the installation, will give a tour and brief background.

Panel discussion moderated by Thorbjörn Laike (LTH, professor emeritus) and Henrik Almquist (LTH, architect) on implementing the new building regulations with invited experts: Pontus Åqvist (Open Studio, architect), Martin Jacobsson (AF Bostäder, developer), Erik Sigge (LTH, architectural historian), Filip Spajic (Lund Municipality, planning architect) and Anki Kaplan Wikström (Swedish Architects, architect).

The discussion will take place in the Fullscale Lab in Building A on the LTH campus. (Klas Anshelms väg 16, Lund).

ABAR: New building regulations, what do we do?

Since the 1930s, there have been rules and standards for how housing should be designed. The new building regulations involve easing several requirements that have been seen as a guarantee of dignified housing. What does this mean for architects' ability to ensure that the housing they build is beautiful, functional and sustainable?
