String Furniture is a leading Scandinavian design company primarily known for the flexible and functional shelf system String®, a Swedish design icon from 1949. String Furniture was founded in 2004 and is today in over 40 different markets around the world and with just over 20 employees in Sweden, two employees in China, subsidiaries in Japan and a number of agents around the world. The production takes place in Småland and the head office is located in Malmö.
With the help of successful collaborations with well-known designers and architects as well as close work with suppliers and resellers, sales have steadily increased since the start and end up at around 240 million for 2018. The business is growing both in Sweden and internationally.
It all started with a competition in 1949. The leading Swedish publisher Bonniers started a competition to find a shelf solution that was both affordable, easy to transport, assemble and install. The married couple Nils and Kajsa Strinning won the competition with their ingenious solution string® - a flexible, elegant and minimalist shelving system that could be set up on any wall. Together, they created a timeless system that could be expanded and modified indefinitely with more shelves, folding tables and cabinets. Over time, the string® family has expanded with sister collections, e.g. string® plex, string® pocket, string® works and string® +. We develop, refine and adapt string® continuously.
