Malmö is a city in constant transformation. It continues to grow and become denser as people move in and out, bringing life to its many neighbourhoods and public spaces. But how is a city actually planned, and who gets to shape its future?
This exhibition explores the democratic processes behind urban planning and shows how you can take part in shaping the city. At its centre is a nine-square-metre model of Malmö, illustrating the city as it looks today while highlighting areas where future development is planned. The model is 3D-printed in smaller sections that can be updated and replaced as the city evolves.
The exhibition also highlights how dialogue, participation and shared responsibility can contribute to a more equitable and sustainable city. It presents examples from the City of Malmö’s work with comprehensive planning and public engagement, alongside Urban Academy’s perspectives on democratic processes and co-creation in the built environment.
Together, these perspectives show that urban development is not only about buildings and places, but also about the people who live in and shape the city.
