Welcome to a walk across the Varvs Canal, where we explore how a technical traffic solution can be shaped into an attractive place to spend time. Styrmansbron is praised by the jury for its “distinctive streamlined form” and how, with architectural precision, it gives a clear identity to the urban space.

We will discuss the bridge’s significant design — a nod to Varvsstaden’s industrial heritage — and reflect on the role of bridges as strategic keys in the overall masterplan for Varvsstaden, a project awarded the Planning Award 2024. The conversation is led by those who have helped shape the link between the area’s shipyard history and the new city.

Participants: Johan Pintura (Kjellander Sjöberg), Hanne Birk (Varvsstaden), and Evelina Stjernfeldt (City of Malmö).
