The evening begins with a screening of Bogadóttir’s documentary film Jarðsetning (Burial), which follows the gradual dismantling and demolition of an iconic building in central Reykjavík. The film formed the basis for her acclaimed book of the same name, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
Through a personal and poetic narrative, the film reveals how architecture carries individual memories, identity and social history – values that are often lost in today’s pursuit of short-term profitability and new construction.
During the evening, Anna Maria Bogadóttir examines today’s culture of demolition and highlights preservation as a progressive act. Together, we will read selected passages from the book and engage in an intimate conversation about how we can safeguard both human identity and the Earth’s finite resources.
The book will be published in Swedish translation in November.
