The exhibition Bokstäverna omkring oss (The letters all around us) showcases some of the most common styles of lettering – called typefaces – that are found everywhere in society and that we often read without thinking about.
Together with logos and figures in film commercials, typefaces are some of the tools used by large companies and institutions to create identity and recognition. They are the fruit of a handcraft whose fundamental principles are as old as the art of writing, even if the tools and technologies have changed over the centuries.
The exhibition presents Swedish typeface designers and how they work. It also includes the typography of some well-known Swedish brands such as ICA, Tele 2 and SJ.
